Allow me to sneak in here and just pretend I haven’t neglected this site for over three years. Instead, I thought we’d play a quick game of catch up.
Major milestones
- Kennedy: We had a baby! Yup, a whole ass child. Her name is Kennedy Josephine and she was born in October of 2017. That’s her beautiful face up there. She’s a little older now, but still just as gorgeous.
- Black water: Our guest bathroom flooded with black water (really bad stuff) when our plumbing wasn’t disposing of waste properly. Big yikes. Luckily insurance covered most of the cost of repairing and we had to make some impromptu decisions about flooring for the bathroom, laundry area, dining room and kitchen – and ended up remodeling most of the guest bathroom in the process. Homeownership is fun.
- Death: Husbae and I each lost a parent in 2019. It sucked and that’s all I’m going to say about that.
- Law Suit: We got sued for the first (and hopefully last) time by a contractor we hired to do some work on the exterior of the house. Long story short, they didn’t finish their work. We refused to pay until they did. They sued. Unfortunately for us, they won. Be careful folks and secure those referrals.
That’s the big stuff. Unfortunately for my (and the internet’s) love of before and afters I haven’t been great at documenting the very incremental changes we’ve made and have yet to do. We still have more boob lights than I’d like to admit in this house and a 1980s ceiling fan in the dining room that taunts me.
Hoping to change the lighting situation soon though. Like possibly this weekend(!) since I’ve been hoarding fixtures for about two years. Finally feeling motivated to get it done. Feeling motivated to clean up and organize and then maybe documenting won’t feel so daunting. No promises because you already know.
I can’t post this now and not acknowledge the pandemic. It’s not my favorite subject and I’ve been enjoying all the people going on with home projects or just being creative like usual. I know it’s hard to do that considering everything going on but it feels like the best reprieve to not have to discuss everyone’s feeling about what feels like an apocalypse for sake of being “considerate.” My opinion, and nothing more. So I’ll try to make this the last time I mention it, as well. Maybe some of you enjoy the break, too.
