So the great sofa search has ended. Sort of.

The biggest issue we encountered was finding something big enough to accommodate the usual number of guests we have and stay comfortably within our budget. We envisioned a large comfy sectional that would double as a bed for our friends without designated drivers. When we finally got down to business and measured the space and thought about how we planned to use it, we realized we’d have to rethink everything and consider a simple couch.

We finally set our hearts and wallets on West Elm’s Goodwin grand sofa. We could’ve custom ordered it in chocolate brown but decided not to wait 2½ months and purchased an in-stock color, Charcoal Gray. Which is what my last post was alluding to.

Here’s BJ enjoying his new favorite piece of furniture. In the background you can see the new baby, Billie, fast asleep on a black corduroy Sitsational chair that Yong’s sister gifted him. Its the not greatest looking chair in the world, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t one of the most comfortable things I’ve ever sat on.

Since the sofa won’t be up against a wall, there’s a significant amount of space behind it. I realized that it would be smart to have some sort of simple seating there. Why? Well, we eventually plan on asking people to remove their shoes when they come in and they’ll need somewhere near the front door to sit and do so. Also, it allows for people to sit and enjoy the TV, since the couch sits pretty low. After searching and searching for an affordable, yet sturdy, bench we (read: Yong) smartened up and remembered that pieces of mom’s platform bed were sitting in the laundry area, unused. So those are now residing behind the sofa, waiting for a light cleaning and cushions.

As it stands, we now have a sofa (seats 4 people), sitsational chair (seats 1, maybe 2), window bench (seats 2-3 people), and bench (seats 2 people). We also plan on purchasing the Klobo loveseat, which seats 2 people. We’re both worried about purchasing a high-use piece of furniture from Ikea, especially one that has to hold people… but that price is hard to argue with. I’ll be reupholstering it in a more dog friendly color/fabric and replace the legs with hardwood legs.

After all the seating is purchased it’ll be a matter of bringing everything together. An area rug, coffee and end tables plus random decor to finish everything off. After we’re done with the living room, there will be a small detour to the kitchen and dining room then back to my workspace.

Wish us luck.

Oh! Meet Billie, our new baby girl. Named after Billie Holiday, not Billie Jean King like some people are saying! Although, I do like to walk around the house looking for her and screaming “Billie Mays!!” :)

Unfortunately, we’ve noticed she has some sort of breathing attacks every so often. Vet visit tomorrow, we’re hoping its not asthma or something worse because she might have to go back to the shelter. I wouldn’t be able to handle a sick mommy and a sick baby. :(
