Ta-dao! How you like us now?! Still so-so? Oh. Anyway, as always we celebrate progress. Sometimes it feels like things around here aren’t moving very much. Mostly because we’ve been hopping from project to project just to stay excited (and tending to more important things).
This room is definitely not finished. We’re planning on getting the wingback chairs reupholstered in a black fabric as well as painting the wood black. For now we have to save our pretty pennies since we’re expecting to pay anywhere from $250-350 per chair. That would still be thousands (yes, thousands) of dollars cheaper than buying something similar in a nice fabric. Don’t believe us? See here, and here. Oh, did we mention we bought these chairs for $35 each on Craigslist? Yep, thirty-five dollars! More on those when we can afford to get them all dolled up.
Did you notice the buffet table in the back? Same one in this post. The table had a lot of wear, which I loved. But the wear was sooo uneven, one side looked brand new and the other.. not so much. I treated it with teak oil, but it only worked on the really weathered parts of the wood. So one day, I decided we needed some color in the room. The idea was to bring that in with a rug. But a certain someone finally admitted he was anti-rugs-under-tables. What color is it? Not sure. I had a random swatch color matched at Home Depot then came home and mixed in a little more orange into it. I’m always excited to bust out a paint brush, but I have to admit.. about halfway through priming I was ready to be done with the entire project. But I stuck it through and I’m glad I did.
I’m still not sure what I want to do as far as window treatments in this room. The fact that both windows aren’t centered within the room bugs me soooo much. We’ve talked about possibly filling up the far wall with mirrors and large picture frames. Yes, completely covering up that window. I know, covering up windows is a grave sin. But after much thought, I’m really okay with it. The mirrors would help bounce light around the room and we really only use this room at night, so the lack of sunlight beaming through this window (which isn’t much) wouldn’t be missed terribly. As for the window on the right? I wish it was bigger. Viewing sunsets through that window is truly a magical experience. For some reason my first instinct is to play down its existence and let the rest of the room shine. But we absolutely need some type of treatment to keep those gorgeous sunsets from blinding guests in the evening. Maybe a roman shade in a similar shade of gray as the wall? (I literally just thought of that and am patting myself on the back.)
It all looks pretty crazy and I’ve tried coming up with actual plans that I can stick to. But I’ve come to realize that that’s just not the way my mind works. I read somewhere once that if you bought things you really, really loved they’d somehow work together. So I’m going full force and making decisions based on things and ideas I absolutely love. I hope in the end it all just falls into place.
