Sneak: Mom’s Room

She’s a stroke survivor and needs 24-hour help. Although, my mom and I were always very close even if she was perfectly healthy we’d probably have the same living arrangement. Her being a single mother and I an only child, there was always a “we’re all we have” type of feeling. Us gals, we stuck together. She recently suffered a heart attack and is currently recovering in a nursing home. I’ve always been adamant about making her room a beautiful space. As beautiful as she’d want it to be if she could communicate her wants. We recently took in a hospital bed so that she’d be more comfortable. I’m taking advantage of her not being home for the time being and rearranging her room. Making it more efficient for her and her caretaker and making it as warm and inviting as a room with such a purpose can be. Its bittersweet to think about working on this. This is something I’ve always wanted to do for her, but I’m not sure if I’ll ever know how she feels about it.

  2. She may not be able to express it, but there’s no way she wouldn’t love it and the care that you’ve put into it. You are a GREAT daughter. I can’t wait to see the finished space. <3

  3. this is such a beautiful post, P. I’m an only-child with a single-parent mother as well and we’ve been tight since I was a kid. even now as I’m reading this, we’re on a trip together (something I try to do for her when I financially can) and I’m so touched by this post. she’s the only person who can make me feel like a little girl always. in her own way, she knows what you’re doing for her and she loves you so much for it. <3 you are beautiful.
