White Kitchens, Possible DIY?

As we (impatiently) count the days until the big move (73 days!) we’re trying to prioritize what we want to tackle first. Besides the usual setting up of the cable, switch the utilities to our names etc. We’re both coming from shared apartment living and both relied semi-heavily on what the other person brought into the apartment (okay, maybe just me). Thus we’ll have to purchase brand new flatware, bakeware, cookware etc. Now as exciting as that all is it got me to thinking about the kitchen as a whole. Not saying we have an awful kitchen to work with because its actually pretty nice. But I’ve just never been a big fan of wood grain unless I’m stepping on it. I recently read some kitchen remodeling tips, and started fixing things in our kitchen bit by bit.

So my mind wandered onto what I would like to see as far as kitchen cabinetry is concerned, right-click saved all the pictures I loved and at the end of the day I noticed a pattern: white cabinetry.

  1. although i’m not a big fan of the white baby, it all boils down to the accents when i first glance at the pics. a minimal amount of wood in the finished pics, with a lot of marble/granite/stainless steel makes the painted cabinets have more of a modern look.

can’t say i liked the black tile paired with the stained wood, it looks a lot better with the white.

  2. i agree, but the black tile was pre-existing in that case. and we’re working with white tile anyway. i like the idea of using the floors as an accent along with simple color from small appliances and other kitchen utensils.

  3. virginal kitchens lol.

I really like the white, like I was saying – just looks upscale and cleeeean. However, just keeping it monochromatic and looking at other colors may present a nice solution, just depends on what your palette will allow.

That second picture is so nice. My inner Martha falls in love every time.
